RSS Feed Frequently Asked Questions

What are RSS feeds?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is a simple XML-based system that lets users subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, frequently updating content can be viewed and organized through RSS-aware software or automatically conveyed as new content on another website.

If that is too technical for you, then you can think of RSS as a way for you to know if something has changed on a website without going to the website. For example, Firefox 2.0 has a new feature called live bookmarks, which are like the old bookmarks you know about, except they auto-update via RSS. So if you bookmark your friend's photo blog on Glowfoto, now your bookmark will automatically update whenever he or she posts a new blog entry. You can also post an RSS feed into another website. For example, you might want to notify readers of your website when your Glowfoto blog is updated. RSS lets you do this automatically.

If you know what podcasts are, then you know what RSS is. A podcast is a special kind of rss feed.

There are several standalone RSS feed aggragators, some of them let you put RSS feeds in your task bar.

How do I use Glowfoto's RSS feeds?
Look for the image around the site. When you see one, there is a feed available for you to subscribe to. In firefox, simply click the button it will guide you through the process. For other browsers/aggregators, consult the docs.
