Glowfoto images are temporarily down Posted Dec 25, 2011 at 6:51 pm
We suffered a power failure in our image servers today and are working to bring everything back up. ETA is tomorrow morning. Sorry and hang with us! We are doing everything we can to get up and running again!

Glowfoto is now Subscription Based Posted Jan 21, 2011 at 11:02 am
From now on, Glowfoto is a subscription photo hosting service.

We did this as an alternative to shutting Glowfoto down. We have been running this site for years, and want to be able to keep it available to everyone who uses it. In order to do that, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer free photo hosting anymore.

The good news is, we will no longer have to run horrible, annoying ads on this site anymore either. Over the next few days, I'll personally be going through the site and stripping away all the ad code I can find. If I miss anything, please don't hesitate to use the contact form to let me know.

We will keep running the banner ad across the top of the page, but we are doing that so our users can advertise their own sites and blogs to other users. That is an internal ad system we created, so all of that money goes back into Glowfoto, and helps us build the site out.

I haven't been able to do much work on Glowfoto in a long time, mostly because it's been losing money at an incredible rate. Hopefully this new system will turn things around. For those of you who stick with us, we appreciate your support, and we'll do our best to make this site as great as it can be!

Face Tagging with Polar Rose Posted Jan 15, 2009 at 11:28 am
We've recently partnered with polarrose.com to allow you to identify people in your photos. We will make a more detailed announcement soon, but in the meantime, feel free to start identifying faces in your photos and explore polarrose.com.

Polar Rose has created a great facial identification/recognition system that analyzes your photos and locates faces. Users can then assign names to the faces, and those names will then be searchable on polarrose.com.

The Polar Rose widget is currently only active on public albums, and it takes a few minutes after you first view a new album for the toolbar to pop up at the bottom of the screen. But once it does, just click the "name the people in these photos" button to get started.

Glowfoto Organizer Posted Aug 22, 2008 at 11:10 am
Ok, the first version of the organizer is ready. I'll be staying in on this Friday night to do the final testing so that I can make it available to everyone by the end of the night.

Here's what it looks like:

What does it do? Well it allows you to upload large numbers of photos to your albums by dragging and dropping. That's basically what the old drag and drop uploaded does, but now with this new system we are able to add more features in as time goes on. For example, we'll let you tag, caption and geotag your photos from inside the app. We also plan to make the organizer into a communicator (kind of like an IM), and send alerts to your desktop when you get new photo comments, guestbook entries, or friend updates. Cool, huh?

Glowfoto Desktop Application Update Posted Aug 11, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Just wanted to let everyone know the Glowfoto desktop app is coming along.

Basically this is going to replace the Glowfoto drag & drop uploader that most of you are using now. It will basically be the same, except you'll also be able to create and manage albums, geotag your photos, caption photos, and organize your photos really, really quickly. This is basically what I wanted the D&D uploader to be a couple years ago.

The first version will just be an updated D&D uploader, but the version after that will allow you to easily move and delete photos. And then we'll keep adding features from there.

First version... by the end of the week, hopefully?

Organizer 2.0 Posted Jul 09, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I'll be starting work on a new Glowfoto Organizer tomorrow. The one we have now was great... 2 years ago. Now I just want it to be better.

The new system will basically combine the organizer, captioner, uploader and geotagger into one system. My idea is to basically make it work almost as if you were working in Windows. So your albums will be "folders" and your photos will be "files". If I do this right, large-scale operations like moving or deleting huge numbers of files will be much, much easier.

We will have a beta version for people to play with very soon. It'll take me a good couple days to get a working version going.
